I live in the centre of Cape Town and there is some really great architecture around. I love art decor and there are a number of really fine examples of that type of architecture.
Here are some pictures of buildings in Cape Town. I will keep updating this page as I find more buildings that take my fancy.

    Enjoy.

Lets start with one of my favourites overlooking the Company Gardens

Then of course the Centre of the Book. Not art deco, but still pleasing to the eye.

At the bottom end of the Company Gardens is St Georges Cathedral. Lovely Anglican architecture in the local Table Mountain sandstone.

    The newly added clock tower

The Methodist church on Green Market Square is a beautiful structure.

A mosque holds its own against the surrounding sky scrapers. A lovely softening of the hard concrete jungle that surrounds it.

Talking of concrete jungle. I was looking for the flowing lines of art deco and found this brutalist passage way.

    And this one too.

Also on Long Street two interesing frilly fancy buildings.

And to round off this late Victorian building. A bit worse for wear, but still beautiful.

  • Casspir Project – SA National Gallery

Amanda and I ended up going to the SANG today and found the most amazing military vehicle. A Casspir, completely covered in bead work with a Bible quotation to justify the work. Absolutely beautiful, and in another sense horrible.
    You decide.
Photo credits to Amanda and I as I am not sure who shot which image.

But first a description of the art work by the gallery

But Cape Town is not limited to just Art Deco. What would you call this? Faux Victorian?
    Dunno but it is fun
