  • Eclipse over Lion’s Head

A lunar eclipse happened some time back. The images show Lion’s Head and the night hikers lamps. Lions Head is part of the Table Mountain National Park. Lion’s head is a popular hike and is done regularly at night especially when there is an interesting astronomical event happening as in the images below.

A red/orange moon sets over the shoulder of a mountain. Hikers head lamps can be seen on the mountain.
City lights are also visible

  • Lunar Eclipse 2019

Early in 2019 Cape Town was blessed with a Lunar Eclipse. The only problem was that it happened around sunrise so we never saw totality. But I did get some nice shots. Even a couple of artistic shots.

Starting at 5:30 in the morning, I got there at 4:30 expecting to be crowded out. I could easily have scored and extra hour in bed. There was only one other photographer.

    Some artistic shots.

  • Lunar Eclipse 21 January 2019

There was a total lunar eclipse in in January this year but being in Cape Town we would only see the start before it slipped below the horizon.
I was not convinced it would be worth my while but in the end it turned out to be quite a good call to get up at 4:30 and head up to Signal Hill.

During the eclipse a boat when through and provided an art photo.
